Zwane on 4-0 Defeat: We Were Outplayed
Kaizer Chiefs coach, Arthur Zwane, admits that his team was “outplayed” following their huge 4-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday, 13 August.
In front of a capacity crowd at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, the Glamour Boys were doomed from the start when Sundowns’ Gaston Sirino hit the back of the net at the sixth minute.
Team-mate Peter Shalulile scored a penalty shot at the 17th minute; 36 minutes later, he netted a brace. The Brazilians subsequently clinched victory after Abubakar Nasir picked up the fourth and final goal at the 76th minute.
Zwane admitted in a post-match interview that Amakhosi were simply outclassed, and for that they were punished.
“We don’t want to make any excuses,” he said. “We were outplayed in all departments and we were not ourselves … These things happen to the best teams in the world and we’re trying to get some combinations while bringing in some new players.”
Nevertheless, he remains optimistic: “It may be early in the season, but it boils down to one thing for the players. We can pick up, get better and learn from this.”
